Nepal National League champion Three Star Club is drawn in Group A of the AFC President’s Cup 2013 along with Erchim FC of Mongolia and Balkan FC of Turkmenistan. During the draw held at AFC house in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Three Star Club of Nepal and Erchim FC of Mongolia are drawn in same group. It will be the second meeting between the two teams in five months. Earlier, the two sides were drawn in the same group for the qualifying round of the tournament held in Kathmandu from May 7 to 11, 2013. Three Star had qualified for the finals as the group winner and Erchim as the runner-up.
The clubs from Central Asia have been the dominant force in the AFC President’s Cup with six out of eight titles going to the clubs from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan while Taiwan Power Company and Myanmar’s Yadanarbon were the remaining clubs from the rest of Asia to have managed to win AFC President’s Cup.
Dordoi FC of Kyrgystan will face KRL Football Club of Pakistan who are appearing for the third time in the competition and AlQuds Hilal of Palestine in Group B.
Three Star, a semifinalist in the first edition held in 2005, will meet Balkan,a semifinalist in 2011, in its opening match. Top team from each group will enter final to play for the title of the AFC Presidents Cup. The AFC President’s Cup is an opportunity for league champions clubs of third-tier Member Associations to get involved in a continental challenge. The cup will be played from September 23 to 29, 2013. The venue for the tournament has not been confirmed yet.
