Lee’s wife expressed her love to All Elite Wrestling and its executives, including Cody and Brandi Rhodes, Kenny Omega, and AEW owner Tony Khan, as well as Matt and Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks. She said that AEW has helped keep her standing and “pick up all the broken pieces.”
Prior to his mainstream success, Lee had an extensive career on the indie circuit, where he wrestled in Chikara along with a number of other promotions. He was then signed by the WWE and made his debut in 2012 as Luke Harper, a member of The Wyatt Family faction. The Wyatt Family competed in some of WWE’s most high-profile matches and storylines, with one particularly memorable feud against The Shield.
After leaving The Wyatt Family, Lee wrestled with Erick Rowan in The Bludgeon Brothers tag team, then eventually left the promotion to work in AEW as the leader of the Dark Order. While serving in this role, Lee managed to defeat Cody Rhodes in a squash match to become the second-ever TNT Champion.
Already there has been an outpouring of support from the wrestling community, with many wrestlers across all promotions and countless fans expressing their heartbreak at Lee’s sudden and tragic passing. In a statement, AEW said:
“We were privileged at AEW to call Jon Huber a brother, a friend and one of our own.”
